Happy FREE SLURPEE DAY.

NYC is just the best place to be in the summertime.  I complain a lot about how muggy it is, and how every thing is cement and reflective and hot, but like - I just went to a free show in Prospect Park and saw the Roots.  FOR FREE.  And then I walked through Brooklyn brownstones and paid attention to the weather and the humans because my phone had died, so I had no distractions.  That sentence is so sad, but honestly, my phone keeps me from really experiencing LIFE sometimes.

Anyway.  New music is coming.  I'm heading in a new direction, and I can't wait to share it.  Thanks for hanging with me.

June 10, 2010

My news page looks a bit erratic...I swear I've updated more than once a year!  As much as I use the internet, I'm still learning that sometimes it's really easy to accidentally erase information and LOSE IT FOREVERRRRRRRR.  Actually, I'm sure it's here somewhere, I'm just not capable enough to find it amidst codes and letter that I don't understand!

This year is half-way over, and I don't understand how that happened.  I just finished up a great California mini-tour with Allison Weiss and Lelia Broussard,  Sometimes it is so wonderful to get out of your head and your city and experience something new.

As far as new material goes, I promise that it's happening.  It's happening, it's happening, it's happening.  The time we spent in Nashville was time well-spent, but we didn't end up with what we thought we were going to end up with, so we went back to the drawing board, got a little distracted, played around, came back again.  And here we are.  Writing and demo-ing and trying to come up with something to be proud of.  And, being the insecure artist that I am, I'm taking my time.  I want my next project to really say what I want it to.  And I'm not quite sure what that is yet.  SO.  Here we are.

I'm going to try and post more previews of things, keeping you all updated.  Keep an eye on my Tumblr blog for that.

Sunshine and all that good stuff,

Lauren

Happy new year, everyone :)

First little blog of 2010, and I suppose the reason I don't have too much to share is because Cam and I are preparing to head back to Nashville to do some recording.  I'm not sure yet what kind of project is going to be born out of what we have planned, but I am open and flexible to whatever ends up happening.  I'd love to release something new this year, so we'll see what we can do to make that happen.

I've been taking time lately to reflect on the direction I'm heading with my music.  I'm excited to try some new things and experiment with sound in general.  I suppose that's what making music is all about in the first place.  I've also been spending some time learning the music of my friends, playing piano for Allie Moss and Allison Weiss.  Playing in other bands is so much funnnnnnnnn.  It's another incredible way of connecting with people and sharing something that I can't really describe with silly words.

I'm very grateful for where 2009 took me, and I'm looking forward, in the most cliche way possible, to what 2010 has in store.

:)

PS if you live in NASHVILLE, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, or CHICAGO, I will be seeing you soon!  Check out the tour dates!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I have a lot to be grateful for this year - so I just want to say THANK YOU for being a part of all this. You have no idea how much that means.

If you're like most people I know, once Thanksgiving is over, preparation for the next holiday begins...and that means it's officially okay to listen to Christmas music. So, without further delay:

SOUNDS LIKE SNOW, by BE STILL: a holiday side project from Lauren Zettler and Cameron Mizell. Available now on iTunes and CDBaby!

I can't really explain how proud I am of this project. Cam and I had so much fun rearranging songs that were already written, and I think we successfully made classic songs sound new and interesting. I really, really hope you enjoy it. The links are above - you can find it by clicking there or searching "Be Still" or "Sounds Like Snow" in iTunes or your web browser.

Thank you for listening!

xo, Lauren

a. new. ep. is. coming.

That's right, folks. I've been working on it for a few months now with my friend Cam, and we've approached it from a completely grass-roots and low-fi perspective. In translation, that means I don't have any money to spend on studio time, so I haul myself to Cam's apartment in Brooklyn and we sit in his living room, ask his wife and cats to be quiet, and hit the record button. We do that for six hours and head home, get up the next day and start over. It's kind of fun. I'm hoping to have five new songs to share by the end of it, and thanks to the suggestions of fellow musician Allison Weiss, I'll be releasing it digitally AND physically, but this time I'll be doing all the packaging myself. This is awesome because it'll be extra-special and sealed with love. I'm hoping to launch all this by the end of January. Huzzah!

Okay, okay, I forgot to update you. You can get the LIVE FROM L.A. FREE DOWNLOAD by clicking HERE.

It is officially fall. The days of Indian Summer may show their beautiful faces every so often this month, but it's here. I get nervous when it starts to get cold. Personally, I love it. I love sweaters and boots and hats and hot chocolate. But musically, I get anxious. It's hard to get people out on the cold. But I can't just hibernate. Maybe I should tour somewhere south? If anyone wants to host a house party in some warm weather, you just LET ME KNOW and I'll be there. Everything is negotiable :)

September 5, 2008

Holy cow, where did the summer go? A few quick updates! The Red Cross Fundraiser I played in Indiana last month raised over $1300! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out (there were over 100 people there!). I've been laying pretty low the past month or so....trying to take a comfy approach to recording some new material and plan out my attack on the rest of the year. I say "plan" loosely - it usually doesn't work out so well in the end, as the universe generally just likes to throw things at me and then point and laugh as I try to figure it out. The pieces land where they do and I usually make it out okay....I think it's a pretty entertaining way to lead a life. Anyway, be sure to visit Myspace to hear some new stuff, and come back in the next day or so. I have a LIVE FROM L.A. EP that would like to find its pretty little FREE way into your equally pretty hands...check ya later ;)

August 11, 2008

Well well welllllll. A lot has transpired over the past few months, but apparently I've been lazy to update. Since May, this site has gone LIVE! I've written a few jingles, played some great shows, and made plans for new recordings (hurrah!) So keep your ears to the ground, there will be more LZ news rumbling around soon. Perhaps the most notable event this summer was my show at the Hotel Cafe. I forget the first time I became familiar with that venue...years ago, the further I delved (word?) into the singer-songwriter genre, the more I heard about it. Enter musicians like Cary Brothers, Priscilla Ahn, etc, I put it on my "Goals" list. Six months after I quit my job, due to good connections and an actual CD of recordings, I made it happen. And then it came and went and it was great and now it's over and I've got to work on some other goals. It's always a whirlwind and a let down, all at the same time, when you accomplish something and it ends. I've got to work a little harder on the whole "be grateful that it happened, not sad that it's over" bit, but I think some of you know what I mean. Anyway, this is turning into a full-out blog instead of NEWS tidbits, so I'll bid you farewell. Come back soon.

May 31, 2008

I was tempted to make up a whole bunch of previous dates, filled with fun information. But this is the relaunch of my website, and I think we should keep things honest. Also, for the period of time that this is short, there won't be a silly scroll bar to the right of the page, and I really like it when that happens. Everything on the page looks so much cleaner that way.

Speaking of clean, I really need to clean my shoes. I got caught in the middle of a torrential downpour in the middle of New York...the dirty streets got wet, which makes me feel like they're even dirtier (when in reality, perhaps they're cleaner?), and my feet were soaked. I have to add that this happened after I went to the 10a.m. screening of Sex and the City. I went that early because it's half-price. Who knew I would be so entertained by the number of grown men in attendance, all by themselves! So sneaky. They thought they'd get away from ridicule by going early. Well little did they know, I would call them all out on my new website.
